IELTS
The International English Language Testing System test is jointly administered by: University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council, and IDP: IELTS Australia. Many universities and English-speaking organizations, when hiring employees from foreign countries, now ask for candidates' IELTS test scores as an indication of their ability to handle the English language.
The peculiarity of the IELTS test is that some of its sections are different for candidates who take the test because they want to study and different for those who are taking the test for other reasons (usually to work).
The test lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes in total and includes the following:

The Speaking section exam is conducted by interview, usually on the same day, but the testing center has the right to schedule it 7 days before or 7 days after the exam date for the Listening, Reading and Writing sections.
The Reading & Writing sections are divided into two types: General Training Reading & Writing and Academic Reading & Writing. Obviously, candidates are tested in one or the other type depending on the reasons for which they are seeking to obtain the IELTS test score.

What is the IELTS Academic Training Modules Test?
It was designed to certify the ability of candidates for studies at the higher education level or for work where the official language is English. It
meets the specifications of British and English-speaking Educational Institutions internationally.
It is among the highest international criteria for certifying knowledge of the English language.
The certification is valid for 2 years.
What is the IELTS General Training Modules Test?
It emphasizes communication in a broad social and educational context.
It is designed for candidates who intend to work, live or study in an English-speaking environment, at the secondary education level or at the vocational education level.
How is IELTS scored?
The IELTS score is expressed as a grade from 0 to 9.

When can I take the IELTS exam?
Exams in Athens and Thessaloniki are usually held twice a month throughout the year.
How can I register for the exam?
By applying to the British Council in Greece. The candidate receives confirmation informing him of the day, time and place of his written and oral exams.
What is the cost of the exam?
The cost of the exam is 185 Euros.

Is the exam done on a computer?
No. The exam requires written answers in all sections except, of course, the Speaking section.
How many times can I be tested?
Each examinee is entitled to be examined only once per month.
When do I get the results?
The results are sent to the examinees and to 5 Universities or other organizations by mail, 2 weeks after the examination.
How long are my results valid for?
For 2 years. Results older than two years are not distributed.
Can I postpone or cancel my exam?
A request for cancellation or postponement made within 5 weeks before the examination date does not exempt from the examination fees unless there are health reasons, which need to be certified.
